Infrastructure Australia Report:

http://www.infrastructureaustralia.gov.au/publications.aspx

At a glance, ITS references include:

- a call for national development of Managed Motorways

- references to congestion reduction with approaches such as advanced traffic signal management

- a reinforcement of Henry Tax Review approaches for road-user pricing with a call to have funds raised in any future schemes directed to transport initiatives (there is also a reference to funds from tolling to be used is  a similar way, but I think this is a confusion of terms).

Intelematics Australia appoints new General Manager, Operations

Melbourne, 10 June 2010 – Intelematics Australia, the company behind the SUNA Traffic Channel service, has announced the appointment of Danny Woolard as its new General Manager, Operations.

Danny joins Intelematics Australia with 20-plus years experience in the traffic and traveller information sector in the Australian and UK markets, where he is recognised as a pioneer in the establishment and international standardisation of digital traffic information services.

Announcing the new appointment, Adam Game, Chief Executive Officer, Intelematics Australia, said, “Danny brings a wealth of knowledge to the company and his appointment will play a critical role in delivering an improved end-user experience, and driving new business development opportunities”.

Danny most recently held the position of General Manager, Business Development, for traffic content aggregator, Sentinel Content. Prior to that role he was part of the senior management team at ITIS Holdings in the UK following the sale of the TMC and data broadcast activity of his company, Communications & Measurement Technologies (C&MT), to ITIS in 2000.

Between 2003 and 2008 Danny served as Chairman of the TMC Forum, and its successor the Traveller Information Services Association (TISA), the key industry standards bodies in the traffic and traveller information systems sector.

Danny will be based at the company’s headquarters in Melbourne.

About TMC Forum

The TMC Forum was established under the auspices of the European Commission to develop standards for digital traffic information, resulting in the widespread adoption of the RDS-TMC standard as adopted by nearly all automotive and GPS brands.

About TISA

TISA, which is the successor to the TMC forum, now also drives the standardisation role for traffic information standards over digital radio and other high bandwidth bearers.

About ITIS Holdings

ITIS Holdings operates the iTMC service, the UK’s leading RDS-TMC traffic service.

Australia plans to allocate 5.9Ghz for ITS

A proposal to adopt a wireless frequency that will standardise a national ITS in Australia is being supported by the government. As part of an upcoming radio spectrum carve-up, the international 5.9ghz frequency is planned to be reserved for intelligent transport, said the Australian Communications & Media Authority. Regardless of country of origin, imported vehicles with ITS connectivity embedded will thus be compatible with Australia’s ITS. The country's alignment with a global ITS standard is expected to save billions of Australian dollars in technology conversion for the local transport industry.
