TECHNICAL TOURS

Optional technical tours will provide delegates with behind the scene tours to Brisbane’s leading ITS technologies and control centres. Attendance is included as complimentary with delegate registration, however bookings are essential as places are limited. Tours will run concurrently, so you can’t attend both. All tours remain subject to cancellation and minimum numbers being reached. Tours will be held on Day 3 – Friday 29 September 2017.

TOUR 1 | Brisbane’s Public Transport System: Multi-Modal ITS Transport Solution

The Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads welcomes you to attend a one-day post-congress technical tour in Brisbane, after this year’s Australia ITS Summit. This is the perfect opportunity for you to extend your stay in Brisbane, and visit world-class multi-modal ITS and research facilities.

This is a walking tour, which incorporates public transport, bus rides and a ferry trip on the Brisbane River and a mini-bus airport drop-off . . . take a walk with us, ride a bus, catch a CityCat – all as you learn more about the ways in which public transport across Brisbane utilises ITS to keep travellers informed and moving.

The tour will include: visits to key transport research institutions including the Queensland University of Technology and the University of Queensland; travel public transport networks to see ITS field deployments through both bus and ferry operations; and first-hand exposure to the operation of transport management centres in Brisbane. The tour will also include a demonstration of the Centre for Accident Research and Road Safety (CARRS-Q) Queensland Advance Driving Simulator, with participants also able to participate in a simulated drive.

The tour will also provide a tour of state-of-the-art intermodal facilities at the University of Queensland Ferry-bus interchange, and travel on the award winning Brisbane Busway system. Delegates will be able to visit the Brisbane Metropolitan Traffic Management Centre in advance of peak-hour, and view real-time travel information services and systems. The tour will conclude with transfers to Brisbane airport, for those who require it.

During the tour, participants will have access to local ITS experts and will gain an understanding of how ITS is facilitating improved journey experiences for customers across all modes of transport in Queensland.

Tour includes:

  • Morning Tea at CARRS-Q
  • Lunch provided by Aurecon
  • Airport drop-off by mini-bus

Participants to bring: Comfortable closed walking shoes, sun protection (hat, sunscreen), own umbrella if inclement weather, water bottle recommended.


Tour 2 | Intelligent Solutions for the Transport Sector

  • Queensland C-ITS Test Bed
    A drive through Ipswich CBD, the location for Australia’s largest trial of Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems technologies. You will hear about the plans for the pilot project, objectives and how it will shape future work within the Department of Transport and Main Roads.
  • Greater Springfield
    Site visit to the Springfield Land Corporation to discuss and view their Smart City Master Plan. See how technology use, and their digital master plan, is designed to position Greater Springfield as a leader in cutting-edge technology infrastructure.
  • J1LED
    J1-LED provides end-to-end LED display systems and solutions across Intelligent Transportation Systems, portable LED advertising and traffic control signs, LED advertising displays and LED lights (Industrial Applications).  Services include design, development, manufacturing and system testing through to installation and commissioning. See how this local Queensland company is developing and delivering innovative solutions to transport infrastructure.
  • Smartship Australia
    A tour of state-of-the-art environment and maritime simulation services at Brisbane Airport. This opportunity is not available to the public, and is exclusive to delegates of the ITS Summit.

Tour includes:

  • Bottled water on the coach
  • Morning Tea provided at Springfield Land Corporation
  • Lunch provided at J1-LED Systems and Solutions
  • Afternoon Tea provided at Smartship Australia
  • Coach airport drop-off for those who require it, and return to BCEC

Participants to bring: Umbrellas for the walking components if inclement weather. All other tour components will be undercover.
