Tony Earl
Executive Director Network Operations
Main Roads Western Australia

Introducing Perth’s first Smart Freeway

Tony is responsible for leading the team based at Perth’s State of the Art Road Network Operations Centre (RNOC) to optimise the performance of the State road network and to facilitate the safe and reliable movement of people and goods, with a focus on improving productivity and reliability in the metropolitan area. His extensive knowledge and experience gained through 38 years of dealing with road network performance improvement in London and the last 5 years in Perth is a great asset in building new capability at the RNOC and addressing the issue of congestion

Kerry Farley
Associate Principal, Smart Mobility and ITS

Innovation in Smart Motorway Design

Kerry is an Associate Principal with Arup and leader of the Australasia Smart Mobility / ITS team. He has led the ITS design on several high profile Smart Motorway Projects, including the M4 Smart Motorway in NSW and the Kwinana Smart Freeway in Perth.

As the ITS lead, his team has been responsible for implementing several innovative design solutions, including the introduction of new smart technologies that are not standard to many road authorities, and the utilisation of digital design techniques such as 3D modelling for clash detection and visibility analysis.

Kerry is part of the Arup global leadership team that is working with clients to shift the focus away from one-off transport investments to a more joined-up concept of ‘intelligent mobility’. This requires an understanding of the complex inter-relationships between transport users, technology, infrastructure and commercial operations. Only then can we help our clients respond to the new challenges and business models that smart technologies bring.
