Department of Infrastructure, Regional Development and Cities
The Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development is responsible for the design and implementation of the Australian Government's infrastructure, transport and regional development policies and programmes. We work to foster an efficient, sustainable, competitive, safe and secure transport system. We also provide secretariat services for the COAG Transport and Infrastructure Council, which brings together Commonwealth, State, Territory and New Zealand transport and infrastructure ministers. In November 2011 the Council agreed a Policy Framework for Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and the Council continues to lead transport policy and regulatory work to enable the take up of ITS technologies in Australia.
